More than Project Management – Project Success Sound project management practices are necessary but not sufficient. They do not guarantee that projects will succeed. Does your organization suffer from any of the following? • team members afraid to tell managers that tasks are pushing out • trading off quality of work in order to meet deadlines • individuals or functions pointing fingers at others (blame game) • long stretches of involuntary overtime/burnout • schedule surprises (slips) just before key milestones These are common symptoms of what we call the “project management vicious cycle.” Over the last 15 years working in high pressure environments (e.g. high tech product development, commercial construction, IT, etc.), we’ve learned that the vicious cycle is almost always present to some degree in any environment with time pressure and uncertainty. Excellent project management alone will not cure the vicious cycle. However, our commitment-based approach does, as evidenced by on-time delivery, markedly improved quality, and significantly improved morale. See success stories .
